AFTER CARE INSTRUCTIONS
THE 1ST APPLICATION OF DERM-SHIELD is to be worn for no more then 24 hours. There willbe a build up of excess ink, blood and plasma underneath the Derm-shield. This is totally normal and it will not cause any damage to your tattoo.
TO REMOVE DERM-SHIELD we suggest jumping in the shower or washing the tattoo over a clean sink. Removing the Derm-shield while allowing water to run over area can help with any discomfort. Any time you're washing your tattoo in the shower make sure it is washed last. This is to ensure your tattoo will be completely clean of any facial, body or hair products that have come into contact with it during your shower. To wash the tattoo use fragrance free, antibacterial soap and with clean hands gentle lather your tattoo with warm water. Do not use a wash cloth or loofah as these contain bacteria and dead skin cells. Pushing those into your new tattoo may cause an infection.
AFTER WASHING THE TATTOO allow it to air dry for 30 minutes. Then with a clean and dry paper towel pat the area around your tattoo so that your skin is super dry. Otherwise theDerm-shield will not properly stick to your skin. Next, peel the white backing off the 2nd application of the Derm-shield and place it on the tattoo sticky side down. Finally peel the top layer, with the plus signs, of the Derm-shield off. You will not need another application of Derm-shield after the 2nd one is removed.
THE 2ND APPLICATION OF DERM-SHIELD is to be worn for no more than 5 days straight. Do not remove Derm-shield during this time, ti is water proof. The only reason to remove the 2nd application, prior to the 5th day, is fi you start to leak outside the Derm-shield. Or fi a corner peels up to the point where the tattoo is exposed. If this happens see "IF DERM-SHIELD IS PEELING OFF" After the 5th day see "TO REMOVE DERM-SHIELD" After removing 2nd application of the Derm-shield never cover it again! For the remaining 2 weeks wash the tattoo twice a day then see "AFTER WASHING THE TATOO".
NEW SKIN will start to regenerate after removing the 2nd application of Derm-shield. This is also completely normal and happens with ever tattoo. You will see dry, light, flaky skin form over your tattoo very similar to how a sun burn heals.. It is super important you do not pick or scratch at the tattoo during this time. This will result in the removal of ink from tattoo and or needing a touch up. If tattoo seems dry or feels itchy (after 2nd application of Derm Shield is removed) we suggest moisturizing the tattoo no more then 3-5 times a day using any white unscented hand lotion. When applying lotion use a very thin layer of lotion to avoid clogging your pores. The best thing for you tattoo during this process is air so less is more when it comes to lotion.
IF DERM-SHIELD IS PEELING UP during the 5 days of the 2nd application of Derm-shield, do not try to tape ti down. This is to avoid getting any bacteria trapped under the Derm-shield for an extended period of time. If a corner of the Derm-shield peels up and there is still a seal around the tattoo that is fine. But if the Derm-shield peels up and the tattoo is exposed please contact the tattoo shop or your tattoo artist for more instructions!
WHILE HEALING Do not to go sun tanning, swimming or submerge the tattoo until ti is completely healed. This is when you have no more scabbing or shinny secondary skin which, can take at minimum 2 weeks after the 2nd application of the Derm-Shield has been removed. Doing so can cause damage and may lead to infection of the tattoo. You are able to work out only after removing the 2nd application of the Derm-Shield. This to avoid any more excess build of sweat and liquid under the Derm-shield while healing. Do not to use Aquaphor or A&D ointment on your tattoo unless instructed by your tattoo artist.
AFTER CARE PRODUCT SUGGESTIONS (All after care product must be unscented as this may cause irritation of the tattoo) Gold Dial Antibacterial Soap is the best soap we suggest for cleaning your tattoo. You can find this any where like Stop n Shop, Walmart, Target etc. Dove Unscented Bar Soap can also be used but it is important you use a new bar of soap for ever new tattoo. As well as use that bar of soap for only your tattoos. Using the bar soap on other part of your body as well as your tattoo can cross contaminate the tattoo and may lead to infection. Any white unscented lotion will be just fine for your tattoo healing process as long as they are not not Vaseline or Coco Butter products. We suggest lotion brands such as Lubriderm, Aveeno, Eucerin. Please do not use any lotions you may have purchased from Bath and Body works or Victoria Secret as they contain fragrances.
